Mesh goggles and face protection is probably one of the most common forms of eye protection we see in the airsoft community as it is commonly given out to rentals in the aspect of a full face shield. However mesh does have some drawbacks over ballisitcs glass in the aspect of longevity, shattering bbs and paint splintering of the mess.

Advantages of mesh goggles:

  • does not fog up

  • can be a part of a full face mask

  • offers good all round protection for a new player

  • comfortable and limits overheating around the face depending on the mask or goggles.

  • affordable

  • secured in place by straps

Disadvantages:

  • BBs can shatter on the Mesh and splinter into the eyes

  • paint on the Mesh can irritate the eye if it splintered off by a BB hit

  • strength of the mesh can deteriorate if hit in the same area multiple times causing a failure

  • difficult to wear if you use glasses

  • can obscure vision

average price: £10 - £30 (depending on brand and coverage of the face)

Ballistic glass goggles are probably the most reliable and mostly used by experienced players due to the higher costs, however the major brands do offer affordable alternatives that match the price off mesh.

Advantages:

  • prevents splinters of shattered BBs or anything from hitting the eyes

  • easier to see threw

  • can be fitted with prescription lenses( expensive) or inserts
